Paxa Muyeres Route

Difficulty: Easy.

Journey: 8.6 km (one way). Pedestrian and cyclotourist use.

A route that follows the path so often used by the sardineres candasines, which, day after day, would run through the municipality of Carreño and neighbouring villages, carrying on their heads the ‘ducks’ (a species of flat baskets) filled with fish, which they sold at dawn on the Plaza del Fontán de Oviedo.

The journey stretches from the Villa Candasina, following the Camino Real Candás- Oviedo (which rose to the top of the Monte Arreo), to the Ermita de Los Remedios, which hosts the image of the patron Celestial de Carreño, and the only canonically crowded Virgen asturiana, together with that of Covadonga. In Los Remedios, the Sardinian candage climbed on their way to rest and walk.

This route runs through the Roman parishes of Perlora, Priendes and Guimarán and includes: Carreño style baking and baking, water mills and Rodezno, and a 13th century defensive stronghold (Torruxón de Priendes).
