ANTÓN MUSEUM

Candás Sculpture Centre

The Candás Sculpture Centre, Museum Antón, opened its doors on 13 July 1989. It arose from the donation made to Carreño City Council by the heirs of the candastine sculptor Antonio Rodríguez García, ‘Antón’ (1911-1937).

The building and sculptural park

The museum occupies the village of Estrada-Nora, a building in the late 18th century. It is surrounded by a large garden where outdoor sculptures have been installed: it was the first sculptural park in Asturias.

The collection

The ground floor has three rooms for temporary exhibitions. The first floor is entirely dedicated to the Anton site: a selection of pieces made between 1928 and 1936, covering virtually all their topics and techniques. The artist’s drawings, watercolours and paintings are displayed next to the sculptures. In total, the collection gathers more than 350 pieces.
