Mitological source, since the specific element of its name comes from the mythological advice that ‘Les Xanes’ are located there.
This source, known as Les Xanes, is located on meadows known as Pastu Torío in the Valle Baxu, the largest population centre in the parish of the Valle. It is publicly owned, with a two-stone washer. It should be noted that at the Fonte Les Xanes there were some Xanas who, in addition to washing their clothes, took care of those of their neighbours, when in some nights they left them trapped in the serene. When they were being picked up, their owners in the early hours found them folded and dry, despite the fact that the lawn was wetted by the orbayada. It was the Xanas gentiles who dried and carefully collected the clothes.
This source is located on the ancient pilgrims’ road to Santiago along the Asturian coast as it passes through Carreño, on the Cuesta Ramos, a wide road that descends from the rainwater to the heart of Santolaya, crossing the cores of La Vereda and Xanes. This road is called ‘Los Ramos’ because there are and there were probably many more trees and bushes on the rise to this area.
One of the stones in the washroom bears the name ‘Herminia’, which was a woman resident in the house closest to the source, Casa Pepemingo, who was going to wash daily, and who, as was customary in the past, each washroom marked its stone, as it was always intended to use it, and who looked at each other for the maintenance of its washing area.
