Rivas House

The Rivas palace, which is one of the emblematic houses of the town, is in fact located in the oldest neighbourhood of Candás in Santolaya. It is a rectangular flat house, with three heights and a low deck or slip that we can see externally thanks to the caseton that protrudes on the roof. The façade is covered with stone.

It uses a fairly simple decoration style highlighting recercs, which do not protrude, in windows and doors, with the same stone as the rest of the façade.

The upper floor differs from the others in that there are two small balconies, which are very simple, but given the sobriety of the construction they stand out in a special way, with the addition of a verge identical to that surrounding the small front courtyard belonging to the property.

The building at the time of its construction showed an oquety on its façade that made it clear that there was no shield at all, but around the 70s it was placed with the shield that is currently in use, that of the Rivas family.

This house inspired Armando Palacio Valdés as the well-known house of Mr de Meira in one of his works.
