The first steps for the construction of the Ambas schools were taken in June 1909 when Mr José Bango León applied for a building permit from the City Council. The Ambas School, built in Upper Huerno, was one of the many contributions made to the municipality by the Bango brothers, migrants to Cuba. On the one hand, Mr Álvaro, who contributed most of the money, and on the other hand, Mr José, who remained on the site until the building was completed.
The building is not the classic building of those years, but it was a single-body school and a single teaching room attached to which the housing for the teachers was located. He also had a national belly and coat of arms on the façade.
When the works were completed in January 1913, Mr José Bango joined the Municipality and proceeded with the necessary steps to donate the school to the Municipality, which ten years later, like the other schools in the area, passed to the State.
The building does not retain school use, children from the parish of Ambas come to the Guimarán Valle School. These old schools were rehabilitated by Carreño City Council and remain in socio-cultural use at the headquarters of the Santiago de Ambás Residents’ Association.
