THE CRISTO DE CANDÁS FESTIVAL

The Great Festival of September

[Provisional text, subject to review by the Municipality.]

The festivals of the Santísimo Cristo are the most important festivals in Candás, bringing together residents and visitors every September around the image of the Christ, closely linked to the maritime tradition of the town.

The big day is 14 September. It begins at dawn with the Alborada marinera, which runs along the belly to the quay with the gaites band, and follows the Cristo procession mid-morning from the parish church of San Félix. The day before, at midnight, the Great Foguera, the fireworks show, took place.

Around these events there are several days of speaking, banana competitions, charangas and activities for all ages. In 2026, festivals took place from 11 to 15 September.
