District of Les Conserveres and the districts

Poem of the entrance panel (J.M. García)

... talking about them is about returning to my childhood, returning to the odours, landscapes, and above all to the things and things that surrounded my existence. It is to close the eyes and soon see the port full of vapours, motor cars, boats and barges filled with beautiful bowls, carts, chitches and sardines; it is to hear again the sounds of the ship’s sirens, the Rula and the factories... it is to return to the Candás where the smell of brine flooded everything.

Les Conserveres

They are the workers of the numerous salting and canning factories in Candás during the 19th and 20th centuries. In many cases they were wives, daughters or sisters of fishermen.

The Barrileros

They were the craftsmen who built the wooden barrels, where the fish was salted, anchovies in brine, etc.
