This section of the green track runs along a section of the rail track between Gijón and El Ferrol that was never brought into use. It has a slope with asphalt irrigation and runs through the parishes of El Valle, Ambas and Tamón, where there are testimonies of Carreño’s traditional peasant culture: cut and painted ‘Carreño style’ moulds and combs, mills and numerous fountains and washbasins.
The track intersects with other routes described in this guide, such as the Coastal Route of the Camino de Santiago, which between Gijón and Avilés rises the Arreo Mount, the profile of which closes the horizon visible from the Green Way in the south.
During the Civil War, one of the main aviation fields used by the Republican side during the dispute (1936-1937) was cleared in this valley. A plaque, located next to the Green Way, recalls this fact.
